Victoria Munn

Expert Guru

I am a freelance writer with five years of experience researching different topics. I have written for both print and web, and feel confident writing about almost anything! My life experience is more geared towards practical things - green living, parenting, writing itself.

I also have experience planning weddings, and travel experience. I've been to many of the US states (and Canada) - and can definitely tell you about some great places to go.

I'm a tattooed freak (hah!) with 10 tattoos and various piercings, both former and current. I also have stretched ears at a 2ga.

I am also a published poet - and know a lot about getting fiction works published in small magazines and online.

My credentials are that I am college educated and have those five years of experience, as well as the fact that I am constantly learning new things that I can write about due to a voracious appetite for reading.

10 Tips from Victoria Munn

Celebrity Wedding Styles

Celebrities choose to have their weddings in all sorts of settings. Whether it's getting married on a beach like Seal and Heidi Klum or at a Las Vegas chapel like Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, many of the ways that celebrity weddings are held can be used by couples with any budget. A great thing to keep in mind is that celebrities often choose simple and comfortable wedding settings even if they could afford a lavish production. Choosing a destination wedding that is intimate and casual can be more comfortable, and emulate a celebrity wedding.

Choosing Accommodations for Your Destination Wedding

When deciding on where to stay for your destination wedding, you'll definitely want to take your guests' comfort and pocketbook into consideration. As the bride and groom are not expected to pay for the rooms of wedding guests, the guests themselves will be spending the money to stay at your destination. Choosing an all-inclusive resort for your destination wedding can be a great choice, as the guests will be able to pay one fee for their rooms, entertainment, food and beverages.

Destination Wedding Apparel Styles

When you're getting married at a destination, whether it's a beach or a chateau in France, you have to make a decision as to what to wear. Destination weddings pose a difficult situation for brides especially, as wearing a traditional wedding gown may not be possible or practical. Some other wedding styles that might fit your location better could be a sarong for a beach wedding, or a simple white dress for a location that is hard to reach.

Making Destination Wedding Arrangements

One of the most important things to keep in mind when making destination wedding arrangements is your timetable. You will need to start making reservations and plans to visit the destination (if possible) about a year in advance. About nine months in advance of your wedding date, you'll want to reserve your wedding location and accommodations for guests. Four to six months in advance of the date, you'll want to send out "save the date" cards, in addition to or instead of traditional invitations. This way, you can give your wedding guests plenty of time to make their arrangements for travel to your destination.

Destination Weddings in Hawaii

Hawaii is a wonderful place for destination weddings. The numerous islands provide many secluded and public spots for wedding ceremonies, and the various locations on the islands allow for settings to please any couple's tastes. The islands also make it easy to combine a wedding and honeymoon, where a couple could have their ceremony on one island (like Oahu) and then spend their honeymoon on another (like Kauai). Plus, you're staying within the United States for your wedding, so legally it is easier to plan.

Destination Wedding in Mexico

Choosing a destination wedding in Mexico is a great way to have a beautiful beach wedding. The sandy shores of Cozumel and Cancun regularly welcome couples who wish to get married there, and other parts of Mexico offer some traditional Mexican wedding traditions. There are even historical sites, such as on the the Yucatan peninsula, where you can get married in the Mayan tradition. Legal requirements in Mexico are a bit stricter than some states in the US, but not too inconvenient as to make a wedding here difficult.

Destination Weddings in the Caribbean

Getting married in the Caribbean has become extremely popular over recent years. The number of resorts, particularly all-inclusive resorts, that offer wedding packages has grown, and many of the Caribbean islands (such as Aruba) have relaxed their marriage laws. Most Caribbean islands offer exotic settings and places perfect for both wedding ceremonies and honeymoons, and many guests will be thrilled to attend a wedding on a tropical isle.

Destination Weddings in Europe

Europe has much to offer the couple who wants a destination wedding. From the castles of France and the United Kingdom, to the sunny shores of Spain, there are many different settings available to couples wanting a European wedding. Although Europe may seem like a natural choice for your destination wedding, many of the countries here do have strict legal requirements for getting married while in their settings. Some of the loosest requirements are in England and the island of Gibraltar off the coast of Spain.

Some Destination Wedding Themes

There are many different themes available to the couple who wants to plan a destination wedding. Sometimes, a theme is obvious depending on where the wedding ceremony will be held; a beach theme for a beach wedding. Other times, you'll want to plan your destination around the theme of your wedding. For instance, if you have your heart set on a wedding including an Elvis impersonator, you'll want to be sure to head to Las Vegas to get hitched. If you want any sort of specialty wedding theme, Vegas is the place to make it happen.

Destination Weddings in the US

The United States may not be the first place you think of when you want to plan a destination wedding, but there are many different settings and areas to choose from for a great destination wedding ceremony. If you enjoy history, a spot like Philadelphia just might be for you. If you'd prefer a beach setting, the beautiful shoreline of Florida offers couples a great place to get married in a tropical atmosphere without having to leave the US.
